Full-scale application of nZVI: remediation of deep contamination plume close to source of drinking water
This site is located in a very complex geological environment and in imminence of the source of drinking water. Therefore, the soluble in-situ reagents cannot be applied here. NANOFER slurry was chosen for removal of chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHCs) from a deep aquifer in fractured rocks.

Combined abiotic and biotic in-situ reduction of hexavalentchromium in groundwater using nZVI and whey: A remedial pilot test
The paper describes a pilot remediation test combining two Cr(VI) geofixation methods – chemical reduction by nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) and subsequent biotic reduction supported by whey. Combination of the methods exploited the advantages of both – a rapid decrease in Cr(VI) concentrations by nZVI, which prevented further spreading of the contamination and facilitated subsequent use of the cheaper biological method. Successive application of whey as an organic substrate to promote biotic reduction of Cr(VI) after application of nZVI resulted in a further and long-term decrease in the Cr(VI) contents in the groundwater.
Distribution and Storage
Product availability: 500kg of slurry is usually dispatched in one day. Please consider using NANOFER STAR dry powder and preparation of fresh slurry by our dispersing unit in case you require larger quantities.

NANOFER slurry products are distributed in plastic canisters (capacity 5, 10 or 20 kg), small samples are available in PET bottles (100g, 250g, 500g). Storage in glass is not recommended due to pressure build-up.

Shelf-life: NANOFER slurry products are an extremely reactive dispersions of iron nanoparticles that – if in contact with oxygen or water – intensively oxidize. NZVI, which is capable of efficient reduction of contaminants in water, transforms into iron oxides and hydroxides. For this reason it is necessary to process the material as soon as possible, we do not recommend to store NZVI aqueous dispersions for a long time. If you need to do so, please store it in cold premises (5°C) in order to reduce corrosion rate. For more information, please read the article about nZVI slurry ageing in the download section.
