Custom made NZVI products

It is possible to disperse NANOFER dry powder (25P or STAR) in various liquids in order to improve stability and migration, prevent agglomeration or adjust the reactivity of nanoparticles. Another intention might be a combination of nZVI and other compounds to create completly new products with unique features for alternative application. Please see few examples bellow.
CMC coated zero-valent iron nanoparticles

CMC coated zero-valent iron nanoparticles

Among other surface modifications (e.g. PAA coated NANOFER 25S), addition of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) proved to be resulting in enhanced mobility and making the application of slurry easier. This product was tested also in Research Facility for Subsurface Remediation (VEGAS) within the NanoRem project. The pilot test provided results showing among others a high remediation efficiency of NZVI. CMC coating is recommended particularly for surface modification of NANOFER STAR, which is injected on sites with difficult conditions like low permeability.
It is possible to use NANOFER for preparation of emulsified zero-valent iron (EZVI) according to NASA patent (a mixture of water, vegetable oil, stabilizers/emulsifiers and iron particles).

Another option is to place nanoparticles into innert liquid instead of water: NANOFER 25PG is a dispersion of very reactive iron nanoparticles in propylene glycol, which is intensively used in pharmacy, food industry and other sectors considered as safe compound. There is no chemical interaction between iron and propylene glycol, therefore the product is not affected by ageing (corrosion) like standard water slurries.
Another interesting option is lately seen in combination of iron nanoparticles together with other noble metals. These products with strong catalytic properties can be applied in remediation of recalcitrant compounds, which are hard to treat by conventional methods. Another field of application is seen in function paintings, surfaces or petrochemistry.
